Family Health Insurance in Largo
Covering a whole family means juggling more doctors, more medications and a bigger deductible. We compare family plans from several carriers, check that your kids' pediatrician is in network, and one advisor handles your questions from the first call through enrollment and beyond.
One plan for everyone, chosen with care
Family health insurance puts parents and children on a single policy with one premium and shared limits. It can be an ACA Marketplace plan, which may qualify for tax credits based on your family size and income, or a private plan bought directly from a carrier. The right choice depends on who uses care, how often, and which doctors you want to keep.
The details matter more with a family than with one person. A plan with a low premium can carry a family deductible that is hard to reach, or a network that leaves out the pediatrician your kids already like. We look at those pieces with you before anything is signed.
You work with one person the whole way. The same advisor who walks you through the options also handles the enrollment paperwork and is the one you call when a claim or an ID card question comes up later.
What we do for your family
Side-by-side plan comparison
We line up family plans from multiple carriers so you can see premiums, deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums next to each other. No guessing which plan is cheaper over a full year.
Doctor and network checks
Give us the names of your family doctor, pediatrician and any specialists. We confirm who is in network on each plan before you decide.
Medication lookups
If anyone in the family takes regular medications, we check how each plan's drug list covers them and what tier they fall on.
Tax credit eligibility
For Marketplace plans, we estimate whether your family qualifies for help with the premium based on expected income and family size, and explain what changes if your income shifts during the year.
Enrollment handled start to finish
We complete the application with you, confirm the start date, and make sure each family member is listed correctly. Small errors in names or birthdates are a common cause of delayed ID cards.
Help after you enroll
Adding a newborn, removing a child who got their own job coverage, or sorting out a confusing bill all go through the same advisor you already know.
Moments when a family plan makes sense
A child joins the family
A birth or an adoption opens a special enrollment window, usually 60 days long. If you call us early in that window, the child's coverage can be dated back to the day they arrived.
Leaving a job with benefits
Losing employer coverage also opens a special enrollment period. Family Marketplace plans often cost less than continuing the old employer plan on your own.
Getting married
Marriage lets you combine coverage or pick a new plan that fits both of you and any children.
Your employer plan is pricey for dependents
Some job plans are affordable for the worker but expensive to add a spouse and kids. Under current rules, family members may qualify for Marketplace help even when the employee does not.
Your plan dropped your doctor
If your pediatrician or family doctor left the network, open enrollment each fall is the time to switch to a plan that includes them.
How a family plan review works
- 1
It starts with a phone conversation
Let us know who will be on the plan and how old each person is, roughly what your family expects to earn this year, and which doctors and medications you want to keep. Most of these calls are brief.
- 2
We build the comparison
We pull plans from several carriers that fit your family and check networks and drug lists for each one.
- 3
We walk through it together
By phone, video or at our office, we go over the options in plain terms, including what a typical year and a rough year would cost you.
- 4
Enrollment and follow-up
Once you pick a plan, we complete the enrollment with the carrier for you and keep an eye out for confirmation. We follow up by phone when your ID cards should arrive and again before your first premium is due.
What decides your family's premium
You pay nothing for the consultation, since the carrier you pick pays us. The premium depends on a few factors, and we explain each one plainly before you decide.
- How many people and their ages
- Every person added raises the premium, and rates for adults go up with age. Under ACA rules, only three children under 21 are charged, so bigger families don't pay for each child.
- Family income and tax credits
- On Marketplace plans, what your family expects to earn determines how much help you receive. Even a small income change can move your monthly cost in a noticeable way.
- Metal tier and deductible
- Bronze keeps the monthly payment down but leaves more for you to cover before the plan begins sharing costs. Gold flips that, with a bigger premium and a smaller deductible. Families who visit doctors a lot often come out ahead on the richer tier.
- HMO or PPO
- HMOs tend to be cheaper but keep you in network and need referrals. PPOs cost more each month and give you more freedom.
Questions families ask us
Something not covered here? (727) 761-9134
Can my children keep my coverage after age 18?
Yes. Children can stay on a parent's plan until they turn 26, even if they marry, attend school or live on their own. As that birthday nears, we can help them switch to individual health insurance of their own.
Should the kids go on my spouse's employer plan?
It depends. We weigh what it costs to add dependents to the work plan against a family Marketplace or private plan and show you both sets of numbers.
Is children's dental part of family coverage?
ACA plans have to offer dental coverage for children, either included or as a separate plan. Dental for adults is normally separate, and we can add dental insurance or vision insurance next to your health plan.
How do individual and family deductibles differ?
Lots of family plans use both. Every member has a personal deductible, and when the family amount is reached, the plan starts paying its share for all of you. We show how each plan you're considering handles this.
When are we able to enroll?
Open enrollment takes place every fall and lasts into mid-January. At other times you need a qualifying event such as a birth, a marriage, a move or losing other coverage.
